Professor Kevin Fenton CBE PrFPH PhD

Professor Kevin Fenton CBE is President of the Faculty of Public Health.  He is a senior public health expert and infectious disease epidemiologist who has worked in a variety of public health executive leadership roles across government and academia in the UK and internationally. His specialist interests include tackling health inequalities, infectious disease prevention and control, climate justice and urban health.

Kevin is Regional Director for London in the Office for Health Improvement and Disparities within the Department of Health and Social Care. Within this role, he is also the statutory public health advisor to the Mayor of London and the Greater London Authority, and the Regional Director of Public Health for NHS London. He is also the government’s Chief Advisor on HIV and Chair of the HIV Action Plan Implementation Steering Group for England.  Before taking up the role of Regional Director for London, he held the joint position of Strategic Director of Place & Wellbeing and Director of Public Health at Southwark, and was also a senior advisor to Public Health England.

He was awarded a CBE in the 2022 New Year honours list for services to public health.

As President, Kevin works closely with the Academy of Royal Medical Colleges, the Local Government Association and a wide range of partners with an interest in public health.  He is committed to working with all four nations of the UK and FPH members across the world.

Professor Tracy Daszkiewicz FFPH

Tracy is an experienced Director of Public Health with a proven track record of senior leadership across health and social care, in transformation, innovation, system change, strategy development and service delivery across the Civil Service, NHS, local authority and voluntary sector.  She is currently Director of Public Health at Reading Borough Council, West Berkshire & Wokingham Borough Council, and was previously Deputy Director of Population Health & Wellbeing at Public Health England and Director of Public Health at Wiltshire Council.

Her interests include community connectedness, human impacts of major disasters, wider determinants on health and sustainability, and addressing health inequalities at their root cause.

Tracy is passionate about supporting the public health workforce and growing new talent for the future.

Dr Ellis Friedman FFPH

Brought up in London, Ellis went to Manchester Medical School, qualifying in 1977. After initially training in hospital medicine, he joined the North West Region public health training scheme.

He became a consultant in 1983 in South Manchester and became head of the department later that decade. Thereafter he was employed as a director of public health for a number of authorities in North West England. He developed an interest in screening programmes, helping to set up the NHS Breast Screening Programme. For over a decade he combined being a DPH with the post of North West Region Director of Breast Screening Quality Assurance.

Ellis has also held many honorary academic appointments including visiting Professor of Public Health at Brunel University.

In 2010 he moved to London and worked as a DPH for two councils until semi-retirement in 2014. He now carries out mentoring, public health consultancy, public health lecturing and research roles in addition to his FPH duties.

His previous FPH roles include Part II MFPH examiner, Faculty Adviser for London (2012-16), Director of Training (2014-16) and Treasurer (2016-2022).

Dr Gerry Waldron FFPH

Gerry has longstanding links with the Faculty and, in addition to serving as Treasurer, he continues to act as an MFPH examiner. He served for six years as Northern Ireland's representative on the Board and also as a Faculty Adviser for the province.

Gerry has extensive experience as a public health leader and was Assistant Director of Public Health (Health Protection) at the Public Health Agency in Northern Ireland until his retirement in early 2022. During a long career in public health, he worked in England, Scotland and Northern Ireland, and has maintained strong links with colleagues across all four UK nations and also the Republic of Ireland.

Dr David Chappel FFPH

David is the Faculty’s Academic Registrar based in North East England. He entered public health in 1991 following work in general medicine and overseas. He trained in the south of England and moved to the north as a clinical lecturer. He has worked in a wide range of settings including academia, health authorities, as a director of public health in a primary care trust, a public health observatory, a local authority and latterly Public Health England. Education and training has always been at the heart of his work and in the North East he has been a clinical and educational supervisor, faculty adviser, training programme director, and head of school before taking up the post of Academic Registrar.

Dr Samia Latif FFPH

Samia trained in public health in the UK and is currently working as a consultant of communicable disease control (CCDC) at Public Health England in the East Midlands. She is also the Associate Caldicott Guardian for PHE East Midlands, the health protection team’s migrant health and air quality lead.

Samia is a member of the UK Faculty of Public Health’s Global Health Committee and a member of the Faculty’s Special Interest Groups on Pakistan and Global Violence Prevention. She sits on the East Midlands NHSE Clinical Senate Assembly and has been involved in regional reviews of healthcare services. Samia is a GMC appraiser, an educational supervisor and an accredited mentor in healthcare.

Her areas of interest are health protection, in particular, communicable diseases control and global public health, public mental health and health inequalities.

Aimee Stimpson FFPH

Aimee has extensive experience of organisational leadership having worked across the public health system within local authorities, the NHS and Civil Service. She has over 25 years’ experience in the public sector, 15 of which have been in public health roles locally, regionally and nationally.

Aimee has worked in several different public health leadership roles, including healthcare public health, health improvement, and on health intelligence programmes. She has strong system leadership and governance experience, including programme management of transition changes to the public health system, assuring the public health grant and leading on joint strategic needs assessments.

Having previously worked in the NHS and in a unitary authority, Aimee moved into Public Health England in 2014. She is currently Deputy Director of Health Improvement and Workforce at the Office for Health Improvement and Disparities and also holds roles in UKPHR as a practitioner verifier and specialist assessor.
