Building Environmental Sustainability into UK Public Health Research Workshop

Climate Change is a critical threat and opportunity for Public Health that can only be tackled in a robust manner through a partnership approach.　 The Faculty of Public Health's Sustainable Development Special Interest Group is therefore delighted to invite you to join us in building on the outcomes of our first workshop held in October 2018.

The aims of the Workshop are; -

  1. To discuss how environmental sustainability can be built into public health research
  2. To generate researchable questions that span the Public Health and Sustainability agendas.
  3. To stimulate collaborations between professionals undertaking research and in practice that improves public health and is informed by knowledge about climate change and sustainability.

The themes:

  1. Health, climate change and action to tackle climate change
  2. Sustainable development, sustainable economies, health inequalities and health
  3. Sustainable food
  4. Natural capital
  5. Energy and affordable warmth
  6. Transport and active travel
  7. Sustainable commissioning and procurement

Helen Walters NIHR Consultant in Public Health / Adviser on PH research will introduce the aims of NIHR and explain NIHR research funding streams, where sustainability could feature in that research (including an update from the workshop held in 2018) what sort of PH research NIHR wants to fund and how to access that funding.  The workshop is aimed at academics from all disciplines and Public Health consultants practitioners and registrars with an interest in each of these themes for a rounded discussion.

We would like to thank Strathclyde University for kindly agreeing to host the workshop which will take place on Wed, 9 October 2019 from 12:00 to 16:30 at Strathclyde University, The Insight Institute, The Collins Building, 16 Richmond Street, Glasgow, G1 1XQ 　View Map .
